Seal 6 EV Warning Lights
Dashboard warning light meanings and guidance for Seal 6 EV owners in Norway.
This warning indicates a fault with your vehicle's onboard charging system. The issue may be a loose or faulty charging connection, an On-Board Charger (OBC) malfunction, or a problem with the charging wiring.
If this light illuminates, your high-voltage battery is overheating and you must pull over immediately to allow it to cool. A flashing warning light indicates a critical situation – stop the vehicle safely and evacuate as soon as possible. The battery may overheat during: extended uphill driving in hot weather; prolonged stop-start traffic with frequent rapid acceleration and heavy braking; or continuous operation without adequate rest periods.
This light comes on briefly when you first start the vehicle. If the high voltage battery system is working properly, it will turn off after a few seconds. If a fault develops in the system, the light will illuminate again.
This warning indicates your battery charge is critically low. You need to charge your vehicle urgently, or it may shut down due to insufficient power. In DM-i hybrid models, the engine will automatically start to recharge the battery.
Indicates a fault with the vehicle's DC system or low voltage battery. When illuminated, charging and discharging will cease. If the light stays on while driving, the vehicle will limit speed. When not charging or discharging, this light indicates the status of the DC and low voltage battery modules. If illuminated during driving, there is a problem with the DC or low voltage battery system. On DM-i hybrid models, this indicates a charging system, DC system or low voltage supply fault; the engine can continue to run but only until the battery is fully discharged.
This indicator illuminates when the charging plug is securely connected to your vehicle's charge port, indicating that the charging system is ready or actively charging. Once charging is complete, the light may remain steady or turn off depending on your vehicle model. If the cable is plugged in but the light doesn't come on, there may be a loose connection at the charge port, a fault with the charging cable, or an issue with the vehicle's charging system.
Your dashboard is displaying a 'Check ESC System' alert, indicating the Electronic Stability Control system has detected a malfunction. ESC continuously monitors your vehicle's stability and automatically applies braking to individual wheels if it detects skidding or loss of traction, helping you maintain control. When this warning appears, ESC may be partially or fully disabled.
During vehicle start-up, the ABS warning light briefly illuminates as part of the system self-check, then turns off to indicate the anti-lock braking system is operating normally. If a fault develops, the light will remain on until the issue is resolved. When illuminated (provided the parking brake warning light is off), the ABS function is disabled, though standard braking and the parking brake remain fully operational. While the anti-lock feature is unavailable when this light is on, your vehicle will retain conventional braking ability similar to a car without ABS.
When starting your vehicle, the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) warning light will briefly illuminate during the system self-check, then turn off – this indicates normal operation. If a fault occurs, the light will remain on until the issue is resolved. While driving, a flashing ESC light means the system is actively working to stabilise the vehicle. If the light stays on steadily (while the ABS and parking brake warning lights remain off), the stability control function has been disabled, though your anti-lock braking system and standard brakes will continue to function normally. However, without stability control, your vehicle may become unstable during emergency swerving or sudden evasive manoeuvres.
This light illuminates briefly during vehicle startup as part of the system self-check, then turns off. When you press the ESC OFF switch, the light stays on continuously to indicate that Electronic Stability Control is deactivated. Pressing the switch again turns the light off and restores normal ESC function.
This warning light indicates low brake fluid or a brake system malfunction. If the light stays on continuously after starting the vehicle, it signals a fault with the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system. Park on level ground immediately to prevent the vehicle from rolling. The light also illuminates when there is a fault with the Intelligent Power Brake system.
This warning light indicates your Forward Collision Warning (FCW) or Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system has detected a potential collision risk ahead. It's alerting you to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and avoid tailgating. This is a safety reminder from your driver assistance systems.
This warning light indicates a fault in the brake system. Unlike the parking brake warning light, this specifically signals a failure in the brake hydraulic system or intelligent brake booster. It will also illuminate if brake fluid levels are low or brake assist has failed. Note that in some models, this shares the same indicator as the parking brake light, but activates under different fault conditions.
This warning light indicates the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) driver assistance system is limited or faulty. This may be caused by dirty or damaged rear ultrasonic sensors or millimetre-wave radar, or a system malfunction.
This indicates your Forward Collision Warning (FCW) or Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is currently limited or unavailable. The 'Driver Assistance Functions Limited' message appears when the front camera or radar sensors are obstructed by rain, dirt, glare, or debris, or if there's a system malfunction.
This warning indicates the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system is limited or unavailable. The rear sensors may be dirty, obstructed, or faulty.
Lane Departure Warning (LDW) or Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) is currently limited. The front camera is unable to detect lane markings properly, which may be caused by rain, snow, dirt, or glare.
When this warning light stays on, it indicates a fault with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system and it cannot operate normally. This may be caused by dirt or obstruction on the front radar sensor, or a system hardware fault.
Indicates a malfunction in the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) or Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. Lane keeping assistance is currently unavailable. This may be due to a dirty or obstructed front camera, or a hardware fault.
This indicates a fault with the adaptive headlight system. The automatic high beam or cornering light function may not operate correctly.
This warning light indicates a fault with the Driver Monitoring System (DMS). The DMS uses an interior camera to monitor driver attentiveness in real time, detecting fatigue or distraction and issuing warnings when necessary. When illuminated, the system is unable to monitor your driving state. This feature is available on intelligent driver-assist models such as the BYD Han L and Seal 06.
This indicates the remote driving function has malfunctioned. The system has suspended remote driving for your safety.
This warning indicates that your vehicle's electric drive function is limited. It may be caused by a fault in the battery system, motor controller, or other high-voltage components. Your vehicle may not drive normally in electric mode, with reduced power and range.
This warning light indicates a fault in the vehicle's powertrain system. It illuminates when a malfunction is detected in any monitored components, covering faults in the core electric drive system (EV models) or hybrid system (DM-i models).
This light indicates the vehicle's power output is being limited. This can occur due to extreme battery temperatures (too hot or cold), low battery charge, motor overheating, or system protection protocols. While the vehicle remains drivable, acceleration will be noticeably reduced.
This warning indicates a fault with the Hill Descent Control (HDC) system. HDC automatically manages your speed when driving downhill to maintain a slow, steady descent. When faulty, this feature is unavailable.
Indicates a steering system malfunction. When this warning light remains on, power steering assistance may be reduced or lost. The system uses an electric motor to assist steering, and a humming noise during operation is normal. Avoid holding the steering wheel at full lock for more than 5 seconds, as this triggers thermal protection that can cause heavy steering or damage. If steering feels heavy during prolonged stationary manoeuvring without the warning light illuminating, this is not a fault—the system temporarily reduces assist to prevent overheating.
At vehicle startup, this warning light will briefly illuminate then turn off during the system self-check – this indicates the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is functioning normally. If the system develops a fault, the light will illuminate again. If the TPMS warning light illuminates or flashes while the instrument display shows 'Please check tyre pressure monitoring system' and the pressure readings display '---', this indicates a TPMS malfunction. A 'signal abnormal' message suggests interference with the tyre pressure signal at your current location, or possible damage to the monitoring module. If the warning light remains steadily lit while one or more tyre pressure values turn yellow on the display, the corresponding tyre(s) are underinflated. If any tyre temperature values appear yellow, this indicates the tyre(s) are overheating.
This warning light illuminates during vehicle startup self-check and turns off after a few seconds when the airbag system is functioning properly. The system monitors the airbag control unit, impact sensors, inflators, wiring and power supply. If a fault occurs, the light will remain on or flash.
This warning light indicates that the driver or front passenger seatbelt is unfastened. When the vehicle is powered on, the respective seatbelt indicator illuminates and remains lit until the seatbelt is properly buckled.
If you press the Start/Stop button without the key inside the vehicle, this warning light illuminates briefly with a single beep, while the dashboard displays "Key not detected - please confirm key is in vehicle". If the correct smart key is present in the car, this light stays off when you press Start/Stop and the vehicle will power up normally. However, if the light flashes when you press the button, the key fob battery is running low.
This warning light indicates the Child Presence Detection (CPD) system has malfunctioned. This system uses millimetre-wave radar and sensors to monitor whether children or pets have been left inside the vehicle after it has been switched off and locked. When functioning properly, it is a vital safety feature that prevents children from being accidentally trapped inside. With the system faulty, it cannot detect occupants in the cabin, creating a serious risk if a child is forgotten in the vehicle—particularly in hot conditions. This feature is equipped on newer BYD models such as the Han L and Seal 06.
A yellow headlight warning light indicates a fault with your vehicle's headlamps. This may be caused by a blown bulb or failed LED, a wiring issue, or a malfunction in the headlight control module. This fault compromises safety by reducing your visibility at night and making your vehicle less visible to oncoming traffic.
This indicates a fault with the Intelligent High Beam system. This feature uses a forward-facing camera to detect oncoming traffic and tail lights of vehicles ahead, automatically switching between high and low beam to prevent dazzling other drivers. When faulty, the automatic switching is disabled and you must manually control your headlights.
This warning light indicates the electric drive system coolant is overheating (EV models) or the engine coolant is overheating (DM-i hybrid models). In DM-i vehicles, extreme conditions such as hot weather, sustained hill climbs, or high-speed driving may cause the engine to overheat.
This indicates your drive motor is overheating. This may occur during sustained high-load driving (such as long uphill stretches or frequent rapid acceleration) or due to a cooling system fault. The system will automatically limit power output to protect the motor.
This warning light indicates the coolant temperature in the motor cooling circuit is too high. While similar to the motor overheating warning, this specifically points to a cooling system fault. It may be triggered by low coolant levels, a faulty coolant pump, or a blocked radiator.
This warning indicates a vehicle network fault. When your dashboard displays 'Vehicle network malfunction, please park safely and contact service centre' or 'Please check vehicle network', it means there's an issue with the vehicle's data communication system. CAN bus or in-vehicle Ethernet communication errors can prevent multiple control modules from communicating properly, potentially affecting various vehicle functions.
This message on your dashboard indicates a fault with the headlight system. Similar to the headlight warning light, this text alert appears in the instrument display and may involve issues with bulbs or LED units, the control module, or wiring.
This warning light indicates that there's a message requiring your attention displayed in the information display area. The master warning light is a general alert that doesn't point to a specific system fault, but rather prompts you to check the dashboard display for detailed warning information.
The seat/mirror/steering memory system on the BYD Seal has a fault.
This warning indicates a malfunction in the engine accessories, such as the compressor, alternator, or water pump. This may affect your air conditioning, battery charging, or engine cooling.
When the vehicle is in ON mode, this indicator illuminates during the system self-check. If it lights up at any other time, a vehicle control system may have malfunctioned. Continuing to drive could cause serious damage. If the light comes on outside of the self-check sequence, safely pull over to the side of the road, power off the vehicle to OFF mode, then power back on to OK mode and restart to check the indicator. If the warning light remains on, have your vehicle inspected at a BYD authorised service centre as soon as possible.
The Engine Malfunction Warning Light (MIL) illuminates briefly during startup as part of the system self-check and should turn off within seconds—this is normal. If the light stays on while driving, it indicates the engine management system has detected a fault. This could involve the fuel injection, ignition, or emissions control systems, or a sensor malfunction. Note: This warning will not appear on DM-i models when operating in pure electric mode.
This warning light indicates your vehicle is running low on petrol and needs to be refuelled soon. When driving on slopes or around bends, fuel sloshing in the tank may cause the light to come on earlier than usual. DM-i models can continue driving for a limited distance in electric mode using battery power after the petrol runs out.
This warning light indicates low engine oil pressure. If it flashes or stays illuminated while driving, pull over to a safe location and switch off the engine immediately. The light will also come on when the engine oil level is critically low.
Your dashboard is displaying 'Please check multifunction video controller' or 'Multifunction video controller function limited'. This indicates the unit that processes your vehicle's camera signals has malfunctioned or has restricted functionality, which may disable features such as your surround-view camera system and dashcam.
This warning indicates that environmental conditions such as heavy fog, heavy rain, bright glare or extreme temperatures are preventing the smart camera from operating normally. Camera-dependent driving assistance features including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) will be temporarily unavailable.
This warning indicates that the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are temporarily unavailable due to external environmental conditions affecting sensor performance. Common causes include heavy rain, snow, or fog impairing sensor visibility; dirt or debris covering the cameras or radar; strong glare or low light conditions affecting visual sensors; or driving through tunnels and similar low-visibility environments.
This warning light indicates a fault with the Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELKA) system. ELKA automatically helps steer your vehicle away from danger when it detects a vehicle in the next lane approaching rapidly and posing a side collision risk. When this light is on, the safety feature is unavailable. This system is fitted to newer models such as the BYD Sealion 7.
This indicator illuminates when the Traffic Sign Recognition system detects a speed limit sign, displaying the current road speed limit. The system uses the front windscreen camera to identify roadside signs and remind you of speed restrictions. If the indicator fails to display, shows incorrect limits, or triggers false alerts, the camera may be obstructed, dirty, or the system may require servicing.
Your petrol particulate filter (GPF) has accumulated excess soot and is actively regenerating (self-cleaning), indicated by a solid green warning light. When road conditions permit, drive on highways or open roads to allow the engine to complete the burn-off process — the light will turn off automatically once finished. Note: In DM-i models, extensive EV driving may trigger an automatic engine start for maintenance purposes, displaying the message: "Engine automatically started for engine maintenance."
The GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) warning light illuminates solid yellow when the filter's soot load reaches maximum capacity, causing increased fuel consumption and reduced engine performance. This indicates that passive regeneration has failed and the vehicle requires active regeneration or professional cleaning at a service centre.
The 'Solenoid Valve Cleaning' message indicates your vehicle is performing an automatic system cleaning cycle. This is routine maintenance for DM-i models. You may notice slight vibrations or noises while the process runs.
This warning light indicates a fault with the Low-Speed Pedestrian Warning System. Electric vehicles are required to emit an audible alert when travelling at low speeds (typically under 20 km/h) to warn pedestrians of the vehicle's approach. With this system faulty, your vehicle will run silently at low speeds, significantly increasing the risk of collision with pedestrians.
This indicator means the low-speed pedestrian warning system has been manually switched off. Your EV normally emits a warning sound when travelling below 20km/h to alert pedestrians and cyclists, but this can be disabled through your vehicle settings. When off, your vehicle will run silently at low speeds. Please note that some Australian jurisdictions legally require this safety feature to remain active.
