Steering System Fault

Indicates a steering system malfunction. When this warning light remains on, power steering assistance may be reduced or lost. The system uses an electric motor to assist steering, and a humming noise during operation is normal. Avoid holding the steering wheel at full lock for more than 5 seconds, as this triggers thermal protection that can cause heavy steering or damage. If steering feels heavy during prolonged stationary manoeuvring without the warning light illuminating, this is not a fault—the system temporarily reduces assist to prevent overheating.

Arrange for inspection at a BYD authorised service centre. If the warning light illuminates while driving, immediately park in a safe location and contact a BYD authorised service centre. If steering becomes heavy without the warning light (thermal protection mode), avoid frequent steering inputs or park and switch the vehicle off for 10 minutes to allow the system to recover.
